Sponsored Research Administration (SRA) is a unit under the purview of the Vice President for Research, is responsible for pre- and post-award functions of the university for awards with U.S. public funding (federal, state, and local governments) and U.S. public funding that is flowed through private organizations.
Primary Functions
- Assist faculty with proposal review and submission.
- Negotiate and execute agreements on behalf of the University and assist faculty with pre award advances where appropriate.
- Establish and communicate policies and procedures necessary to ensure compliance with applicable contract and grant terms, Federal and State regulations and University policies and procedures.
- Activate sponsored project accounts including cost share and review expenditures to provide assurance that sponsored financial activities are in compliance with sponsor regulations.
- Provide post-award non-financial services such as project extensions, budget revisions, key personnel changes, or scope of work changes.
- Establish effective cash management systems to ensure cash flow and the corresponding collection and deposits to respective contract and grant accounts.
- Monitor and review sub-recipient activity to ensure compliance with applicable contract and grant terms, Federal and State regulations and University policies and procedures.
- Prepare financial reports and invoices as required by sponsoring agencies including cost share reports and receive and deposit all subsequent payments.
- Prepare Facilities and Administrative Rate proposal.
- Respond to audit inquiries.
- Provide training to departmental representatives and Principal Investigators to further develop and enhance their knowledge and skills related to the management of sponsored funding.
The Florida State University Research Foundation (FSURF) is a not-for-profit corporation, and a direct-support organization of Florida State University as provided for in Section 1004.28, Florida Statutes. FSURF was formally established by the Florida Board of Regents in September 1993.
FSURF serves as the principal conduit for the Office of Commercialization, whereby the products of university research are made available to the marketplace. FSURF is the assignee of the University's Intellectual Property (IP), and therefore, is the fiscal agent for all activities with respect to the commercialization of the IP.
FSURF promotes and encourages, and provides assistance to, the research and training activities of faculty, staff and students at FSU.
Human Subjects Protection (HSP) specialists provide support regarding human research protections. The IRB, supported by OHSP, is responsible for regulatory and ethical review and oversight of human research in accordance with applicable laws. OHSP performs pre-IRB and post-IRB review, conducts and renders non-IRB regulatory reviews and determinations, and maintains IRB and other regulatory documentation. All human subjects research projects must be reviewed and approved by the IRB or determined by OHSP to be exempt from such review before these research activities begin.
Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) is responsible for care of all vertebrate animals used in teaching and research across the University. Our integrated team of laboratory animal professionals, veterinarians, and administrative professionals is available to help meet your research needs. LAR provides a variety of services, including animal procurement, Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC) protocol consultation, animal model development, breeding colony management, anesthetic and surgical support, and necropsy services. Housing facilities are available for rodents, rabbits, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians. Specialized facilities, including containment, ABSL-2, surgical, and necropsy suites are available.
Research Compliance Programs ensures University compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to research. RCP is responsible for the development, oversight and monitoring of the research compliance program
Clinical Research Advancement is central resource for supporting faculty, staff and students engaged in human subjects and clinical research, including clinical trials. This department helps researchers successfully navigate the life cycle of a study, from conception and planning to identifying clinical community collaborators, understanding regulatory requirements, analysis and publication of outcomes.
Federal Relations works with Members of Congress, committee staff, and executive branch agencies to increase knowledge of and generate support for FSU priorities. We also coordinate with the higher education community to advocate for issues of shared interest, such as increased research and student aid funding.
Commercialization works to commercialize inventions, discoveries, and other works. The OC also assists in securing intellectual property (IP) protection and will negotiate license agreements.
